Ballots are Out....

The June Primary is just weeks away, and mail‑in ballots are already hitting mailboxes across the District. As a member‑driven organization, DC for Democracy is proud to share the candidates our membership voted to endorse for the 2026 Primary.

These endorsements reflect months of conversations, candidate questionnaires, public forums, and thoughtful debate among DC4D members. Every endorsement is the result of our grassroots, democratic process — one member, one vote.

Whether you vote by mail, early in person, or on Election Day, make sure your voice is counted.

Voting early helps avoid long lines and ensures your ballot is processed quickly.

Before you complete your ballot, I want to remind you about DC for Democracy’s first-ever DC Council Scorecard!  This new stage in our work will help you – and every DC resident – understand which Councilmembers are champions of economic and social justice – and which have voting records that work against it.

The scorecard is divided into a number of issues – such as housing and environmental justice – and then identifies key Council votes (on bills or critical amendments) or bill introductions in that issue area in recent years. For each item, we identify whether DC4D supported it or opposed it. We then tallied how each Councilmember lined up with our positions.

  • Champion” is a Councilmember mostly aligned with DC4D positions, we consider them a “Champion”

  • Mixed Record” is a Councilmember whose votes were mixed in supporting DC4D positions

  • Not Aligned” Councilmembers mostly voted in opposition to DC4D positions.

The Scorecard allows you to zoom in on a particular issue and see how all Councilmembers lined up, or to review the entire record for an individual Councilmember.  Note that the Scorecard tracks votes through 2025 and thus does not include Councilmember Doni Crawford, who started in 2026, but does include Kenyan McDuffie, who was a Councilmember the entire period of review.

The Scorecard is especially relevant for upcoming elections for Mayor and for Delegate to the U.S. Congress, where all key candidates are reflected in the Scorecard.

  • Mayor:  Candidate Janeese Lewis George is the only Councilmember who scored as a champion in every issue area we covered.  Her key opponent, Kenyan McDuffie, had a Mixed Record on “Community Safety” and “Economic Justice,” but was Not Aligned with DC4D on every other issue area. DC4D members voted to endorse Lewis George.

  • Delegate to the U.S. Congress:  Candidate Robert White is a Champion of DC4D values in 5 issue areas and has a Mixed Record in 2 areas.  One of his opponents, Brooke Pinto, is a Champion in just one issue area – Electoral Justice – with a Mixed Record in 4 areas, and Not Aligned with DC4D in 2 areas.  DC4D members voted to endorse Robert White.

Please share the Scorecard far and wide with neighbors, friends, and colleagues!

In addition to our amazing Scorecard, we also collected candidate questionnaire responses, which can be found on our website. As a reminder, DC for Democracy endorsed the following candidates:
