DC for Democracy endorses Elissa Silverman for At-Large Council Member
DC for Democracy endorsed Elissa Silverman for the April 23 special election at its February meeting for her track record as a bold progressive voice for progressive budget and tax policies, as well as her significant contributions to ethics reform and campaign finance reform in the city. We believe Elissa’s years of service both in local journalism and rigorous policy analysis at the DC Fiscal Policy Institute have prepared her to be a uniquely well-rounded council member.
Elissa Silverman won nearly 79% in Wednesday’s vote.
DC for Democracy also elected its new officers on Wednesday. In accordance with the organization’s bylaws, DC for Democracy chair Jerry Clark stepped down at the end of his term, following Wednesday’s meeting. Jerry will continue to serve on the steering committee as political director.
The members elected political director and longtime steering committee member Keith Ivey as DC for Democracy’s new chair. He is enthusiastic about the endorsement: “We’ve worked with Elissa on making DC’s budget fairer and its politics cleaner, and now we’re excited to work to elect her to the council. It’s great to have an unapologetic progressive running a serious, citywide campaign.”
In addition to Dan Wedderburn, elected to a second term as treasurer, the following members were elected to the steering committee on Wednesday:
David Solorzano Lowell – Assistant Treasurer
Andrea Rosen – Secretary
Alexandra Beninda – Ombudsman
